Michael Pollan on NPR

We heard this episode of To the Best of Our Knowledge on NPR last weekend.  Michael Pollan does a short interview.  Most of it is verbatim from his book, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless.  I couldn't figure out how to upload it, but here's the link to download it for free from iTunes.  It's the Back to the Farm episode.

August Book Discussion

I'm about half-way through In Defense of Food and though I'm not riveted by it, I am enjoying some new perspectives of what I eat.
For those of you who don't make it past the first chapter (it's about 2 pages long, I think) feel free to watch Food Inc. (watch instantly on Netflix).
I look forward to our discussion!

Asher Lev Painting

I found this cool painting inspired by My Name is Asher Lev.  At least, I think it was inspired by Asher Lev.  The website was in French, but it had the words "Asher Lev" and "Chaim Potok" under it.  Does anyone read French?

Where I find sanity

A friend of mine recently posted a blog post about how her life was too cluttered and she needed to eliminate some activities from her schedule. She then listed all of the activities she could possibly eliminate and explained why she was or was not keeping each on her calendar. She decided to cross out book club and keep her weekly day of scrapbooking. I was struck by this decision. Everyone finds sanity in different things. When my life got crazy, I dropped the scrapbooking habit. Well, the paper scraping habit. I've never regretted it. But, I can't imagine dropping book club. Reading and talking to my friends about reading keeps my brain alive and sane. I love it. I'm so grateful to have it in my life.
